Join Us for Giving Tuesday 2023

What is Giving Tuesday?

Inspired by the idea to unite people through giving, the global movement #GivingTuesday was created in 2012. Directly following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday harnesses the power of social media to connect and encourage people around the world to give back to their communities during the holiday season. Givers are invited to act however they feel inspired – through donations, volunteering, advocacy, acts of kindness and more. Anyone can be part of Giving Tuesday, including families, individuals, companies, and organizations.

To further celebrate and encourage giving, the movement asks participants to share their stories or ideas on social media using the hashtag #GivingTuesday, bringing together a community of givers from around the world.

When is Giving Tuesday?

This year Giving Tuesday 2023 is on: November 28, 2023

Each year the movement inspires people to take action on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

On Giving Tuesday, share our website and join us on Habitat St. Johns’ social media channels to find out how you can join Habitat for Humanity of St. Augustine/St. Johns County in giving back this holiday season.

Why Habitat St. Johns?

Habitat St. Johns has been working in our community for 30 years to help hardworking, deserving families purchase an affordable home. Homeownership offers these families stability and security.

As you know, the cost of homeownership and rent in our county has skyrocketed, more than doubling in just five years. We have countless families looking for stable, affordable homes in our county. Some of them are teachers, nurses, first responders, and hospitality/small business staff. Due to the costs of rent and home prices, many of these people are forced to live outside of our county and commute to work. Some live in substandard housing conditions to afford living in the county. In addition, we are trying to help low-income families and senior citizens, many of whom are being forced out of housing due to increases in rent and skyrocketing home prices. We at Habitat St. Johns work hard to help these people have a decent, safe, and attainable home that they can afford.

We like to say we give a ‘Hand Up, not a Hand-Out’. Families that partner with Habitat have an affordable mortgage, but they do have to pay that mortgage. In addition, they donate 200 sweat equity hours working in their home and their neighbors homes before they can move in.

Having a home offers families a safe, stable environment where they can stop focusing on the increasing housing costs, and focus on their careers, schoolwork, and each other.

We are working hard to increase the number of homes we build each year to help these families but we need your help to make it possible.

Together we can make a difference!
