A lifetime resident of St. Augustine, Ginger and her daughter currently live in an apartment that is not ideal for them. Ginger wants to have a home for her daughter where they can be comfortable. Comfort means not just having your own bedroom, a yard to play in or a safe home, but comfort also means being in an affordable home. Rental and housing prices are unattainable for wage workers in St. Johns County and Habitat can partner with families, like Ginger’s, to provide a hand up, not a handout. Did you know that Ginger will spend 250 hours of “sweat equity” building her home? Listen to what Ginger has to say about building her home:
“My experience is amazing on the home sites. I love working with the future homeowners and working together to make a beautiful community. My favorite part is, of course, working together but hearing the stories of each person and why it’s important to them to get a home and how it’ll be life-changing. Also, coming together as a community makes us stronger as individuals, to show ourselves we can accomplish any goal we set.”
We are so proud of Ginger and can’t wait to see their smiling faces in their new affordable home.
